God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5: 8. As I read Chapter 5 of the book Romans, I found myself meditating on Jesus ' everlasting love since June is in fact the month of the Sacred Heart in the Roman catholic church. I can’t help but be moved by the love of the Almighty toward us. Listening to Jesus' description of his secret heart, where he proclaims, “Behold this Heart which has so loved men that It spared nothing, even going so far as to exhaust and consume Itself, to prove to them Its love. And in return, I receive from the greater part of men nothing but ingratitude, by the contempt, irreverence, sacrileges, and coldness with which they treat Me in this Sacrament of Love.”- So why do our hearts either refuse, or are filled with contempt against Jesus our God?
Shame and fear have blinded us to the love of God. We twisted it into our human understanding of what love is, and the human understanding of love is, well, twisted. As humans, we do inherit the capability of loving from God like a mother’s love for her child and a spouse's love for each other. This is why it took Jesus to selflessly give his life for us sinners to show the true meaning of love for us in the gospel of John 13: “No one can have greater love than to lay down his life for his friends”. Thus, Jesus understands us more than everyone, for he knows every single one of us in our head, he knows our strength and weakness, and what our heart truly desires, and that understanding is reflected in his divine mercy. “On that day, the depths of My Mercy will be open to all. Whoever goes to confession and Holy Communion on that day will receive complete forgiveness of sin and punishment. Mankind will not enjoy peace until it returns to My Mercy.” (Jesus to Saint Faustina). The divine mercy of God is a powerful message for all souls, not for a selected group of people, and not just for saints, but for all souls, broken, tormented, sinful, or just in need; the Lord is here for all of us.
So, we establish that Yahweh our God is love and full of patience, grace, and mercy, that Jesus' Heart is sacred, and the Spirit fortifies us with his love. Yet, our father God still provides us with even more love through the Immaculate Heart of his mother. This is seen in her apparition to the children of Fatima. Mother Mary looks at the same people whose sin killed her son and declares in her immaculate heart, “Are you suffering a great deal? Don’t lose heart. I will never forsake you. My Immaculate Heart will be your refuge and the way that will lead you to God.”-Our Lady of Fatima. So how can we fear to turn to God when he gave such a pure and blessed mother to come to him? The Virgin Mary, our mother, is here right beside us with her abundance of love and mercy to lead the way to her almighty Son Jesus. So let the mother be your refuge, a way to Jesus, our love.
The Sacred Heart is the reflection of God's everlasting love for the people through centuries, his love, which forgave and endured through decades of sin To anyone reading this, and due to fear, shame, or any reason that makes you indifferent to the abundance of love and mercy that Jesus our Lord has for you. So just know that God loves you, and he wants you back with him, he has a place for you and always remember “God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8).
