Waiting on the promises that the Lord has spoken can be a tough journey, especially when you feel like the Lord is transforming you. This is also hard when you’re going through a transition—when you’ve lost someone, a job, or your old life. Leaving things behind to step into a new life can be tedious and exhausting, because the flesh is tied to what is comfortable. Your feelings and thoughts are bound to what you’ve always known, so when God is taking things away from you and leading you into a new season, you almost want to resist the change. You want the pain to go away, you want to get to the promise already, and you want to skip the process. This is where many of us feel like giving up and just throwing in the towel.
This is how the Israelites felt many times as Moses was taking them to the land God had promised them. Even though they had the presence of God with them—as a cloud by day and manna as food—they still complained. They still wanted to go back and give up. Many times, Moses had to intercede for them and encourage them to keep going, reminding them of how far they had come and what God had already done for them.
There are times when I see a bit of what the Israelites could have felt, because as humans we are quick to forget the miracles of God when He is taking us into a new season that isn’t happening when we want it to. Although we’ve seen Him do it before, our impatience makes us question: Will He do it again? Will He do this new thing for me? I want to encourage someone to keep going. One of the marks of a true Christian, as stated in Romans 12, is one who never ceases praying and never gives up.
The issue with many Christians is that they spend time praying about the wrong things and not in the right posture. Your doubts and fears are natural, which is why the Bible mentions “do not be afraid” countless times—because God knows we will want to back out and fear. But He also reassures us that He will do what He says He will do. The issue is that we often give more power to our emotions than to the Word of God over our lives.
When God gives you a promise, He can speak to you personally about a problem or situation in your life. You may receive it as a thought in your mind or a word while you write—write it down in a journal, along with a verse He may guide you to. Because God always speaks to His children, He would never leave you without a word. So when time passes and you don’t see it yet, and you start to question, go back to the word He gave you. Go back and meditate on that personal word He spoke to you, and come to God in humility for clarity on what is happening. Submit your feelings to Him.
One of the mistakes we make is going to people first. People may not always give you the best advice, because they are not the ones who released the word over your life—God did, even if He spoke through someone. You have to go back to God in humility to seek His counsel, and the Holy Spirit, in His wisdom, will give you an answer.
For me, as I am waiting for the promises God has already revealed to me, He has given me the strategy. But sometimes I get weary because I want it to happen in my way and my timing. I fear because I’ve never seen what He has promised. Even in this weakness, I have learned to go to God with my questions—humbling questions. He revealed to me that I lacked patience, and that what He promised will come, and that I must not get discouraged. He truly strengthened my spirit.
Because I journal, I went back to see what He said and when He said it. I also looked at His track record—what He has done before—and realized that He doesn’t speak to me just for fun. He speaks so that I can have hope over that situation, so that I don’t get discouraged and don’t try to rush God’s timing with my emotions. My emotions are not the truth—God’s Word is. If He did it for the prophets, He will do it for me. I have to be assured that it is in His interest to do what He promised me, because He loves me.
So in this period of waiting, be patient. It may not be easy. Months may go by, you may see others progressing, and you may feel like it won’t happen. Your emotions may still be tied to memories of rejection, but this is why you must declare that you will be patient, wait on the Lord, and expect the fulfillment of God’s plan for your life.
Our Lord Jesus Christ told us that when we believe, we will see the glory of God. Expect to see His glory. Expect Him to come through for you. Expect Him to glorify Himself and stand on His Word. You must find the courage and boldness not to let your emotions lead you into decisions against the will of God just because time is passing and nothing seems to be happening, as this may guide you onto the wrong path.
When you wait on God with positive expectancy, it shows spiritual maturity and trust. Those who trust in the Lord will never be disappointed, because He is faithful to His servants.
As the year is ending, let the Spirit of God really drive you to pray against discouragement, lack of patience, irritation, comparison, envy, and fear of uncertainty. Declare that in 2026 you are stepping in with confidence—trusting in the Lord and not in your own understanding, not in your emotions, but being guided by the Spirit. Ask Him to lead you into spending more time with Him, so you can become more familiar with hearing His voice.
Have a blessed New Year.

While reading, I was captured by the tension between God’s promises and the painful process of transformation. I love how the author honestly acknowledges how hard waiting and letting go can be, while gently reminding us that resistance is often part of growth and that perseverance in the process is essential to stepping into the new season God is preparing. Very powerful and touching Glory to God🙏
