Spirit Led Decissions

As humans, we have a natural instinct to make decisions based on our understanding and feelings. To a certain extent, this is helpful—when you are hungry, it makes sense to eat; when you feel pressure, you go to the bathroom. These are normal and necessary responses.

However, always making decisions based on analysis and emotions can be very misleading for us as Christians. Our own knowledge and feelings can be influenced by ego and the desire to appear good in the eyes of man rather than God. This does not mean we cannot make the right decisions at times—we can. But being a Christian offers a different and second source of decision-making, which is the Holy Spirit.

Once you have been baptised in the Spirit and have given your life to Christ as Lord and Saviour, this walk becomes about trust and relationship. You are meant to be led by the Spirit in all things—yes, all things. You would be surprised how, even in small decisions, the voice of the Holy Spirit can be helpful.

I remember a recent Secret Santa soirée organised by my sister. We had to pick a random gift, and I didn’t know which one to choose. I asked the Holy Spirit which gift I should pick, and He told me to pick a certain one, which I would like. Keep in mind, there were over ten gifts, all wrapped, so nobody knew what was inside. I decided to yield to the Lord’s guidance, and honestly, I ended up with the best gift. It was a perfume that smelled amazing. The Holy Spirit knows me and knows I love perfumes. I didn’t even envy anyone else’s gift.

This is a small example of decision-making, but since then, I’ve started incorporating the voice of the Spirit even in everyday things—like shopping. Sometimes I have an idea of where to go, and He leads me elsewhere. Every time I follow that voice, I find exactly what I need and even more. These are small levels of trust and evidence that the Spirit of God within us is faithful.

This relationship is not just about praying and fighting evil powers—it’s about a relationship. There are also times when I ask the Holy Spirit for His opinion, and He tells me to choose what I like. God is not a God who imposes Himself. He wants you to enjoy what you desire too. And interestingly, even when I “choose what I like,” I often end up choosing what He wanted all along.

When I ask the Holy Spirit’s opinion, it’s not out of fear of making a bad decision. What we have in mind may not be bad at all—but God’s idea is always better. Sometimes our thoughts align with His will, and when they don’t, He gently convicts us. He wants good for us. He doesn’t want us to suffer or perish. He wants us to live in freedom, joy, peace, love, and abundance. That is God’s will for His children who trust Him.

The power of being led by the spirit is clearly shown in Daniel chapter 3, when the three Hebrew Men are thrown into the furnace because they refuse to worship the statue of the Babylonian king. This king saw himself as a god and ordered everyone to worship his statue or be thrown into the fire.

When certain Chaldeans reported that the three Hebrew boys refused to worship him, the king became furious and wanted to punish them. Here we see how emotions—especially pride—can easily lead to evil. If he had been led by the Spirit, he would have sought wisdom instead of reacting in rage.

We often fall into this same pattern. When things don’t go our way, instead of going to God, we become furious, bitter, or vengeful—especially when someone hurts us. Or we give up when things get hard instead of consulting the Lord. Leaning on emotions during critical moments can lead to destruction and shame.

When the king summoned the three boys and tried to intimidate them, they stood firm, proclaiming that the Lord would rescue them from the fire—and even if He didn’t, they would still not worship the statue. This shows people who know the power of their God.

In the face of death, deadlines, empty bank accounts, eviction notices, job rejections, depression, or loss—who do you worship?
The God who has saved and provided for you before, or the small gods of your problems?

The king, enraged by their confidence, ordered the furnace heated seven times hotter. The three men were bound and thrown into the fire—still wearing their clothes. Those who threw them in died from the heat.

Inside the fire, one of the men, Azariah, prayed and praised the God of Israel. This is powerful. He was surrounded by fire, yet he chose praise. The Bible says he did not cry, beg, blame God, or question Him. Instead, he praised God with humility (Daniel 3:24–45).

How often do we become offended by what we see? “God, why me?”
Azariah teaches us patience and worship in difficulty.

As the story continues, the Angel of the Lord drives the flames away. The fire does not touch them. They feel no pain or distress. The king sees a fourth person in the furnace with them—and recognises the power of their God. He takes them out and promotes them.

They were not burned. They were not scared. They didn’t even smell like fire.

This story teaches us that in the face of trouble, instead of focusing on the problem, we must turn our face toward God. When you praise God instead of panicking, your enemies will be shocked by your survival. God will use what was meant to destroy you to reveal His glory.

When you are guided by emotions, you focus on problems. When you are guided by the Spirit, you see solutions—because the Spirit of God is always in the future. He knows this is not the end.

This is where sanctification happens—where you decrease so God can increase. It takes time, but the more you yield to the voice of God, the stronger you become. The more you submit to God and resist the enemy, the more the enemy flees, as the Word says.

The voice of God is usually gentle and easy to ignore—but every time I have ignored it, I have regretted it. It is always right.

Spend time with the Lord day and night. Study the Word. Worship Him. Praise Him. As you praise, solutions will come as ideas, clarity, and direction. God will make a way.

When faced with small or big decisions, confess your allegiance to the one true God, Yahweh. Praise Him and watch how His Spirit empowers you with strength, wisdom, and supernatural solutions. He must understand God can defeat death and all your problems, but everything depends on your faith . If you have no faith in God, you won't see his glory. But if you decided to just humble yourself and submit your life into his hands, he promised to take care of you, and God is not a man to lie, for his name's sake, he will always keep his word. When faced with difficulty, there is always a solution; you just need to be patient and know that God loves you no matter what.

Believing in God's love is often the hard thing for us believers because when we have love, we have faith, but when we don't believe in God's love, we have fear and want to give up in the face of the obstacles. I can only invite you to spend more time with God for him to show you his love on a deeper level, because he can't show you his love if you are distant from him, when you also spend 4 minutes a day in prayer. You have to build that trust with him and build love with him, just like in any relationship.

It is your faith in God that unlocks miracles and solutions for you today, because God is still the same. He can still resurrect the dead, heal blindness, feed the 5,000, and do even more. He can do it.

You have to believe it. And the more time you spend with Him, the more your belief in Him will increase, and you will start believing the impossible.

Do not grow weary of doing good or of seeking Him in private. You will see His power. Many people don't have the patience; they want instant results, but God take his time because he is not in a rush and he is never late. His plans are always better than ours.  By demonstrating patience and positivity as you wait on God's promise, you're showing him that you trust him, and God wants us to trust him because he will do what he said he will do. Always aim to be patient, even if you don't see it yet, close your ears, eyes and mind to negative and discouraging thoughts, stay in praise and never give up.

Expect the supernatural. God never runs out of ideas. He is Creator, intelligence, power, creativity, abundance, and greatness beyond imagination.

Have Your way, Lord. You are faithful, always.

I invite you to read the book of Daniel, chapters 1–3.
