Build With God

Psalm 127:1 says: “Unless the Lord builds the house, the builders labour in vain.”

I want to talk about this topic because many Christians are frustrated with their lives without realising they are building things outside of God’s will for them. And it’s not always obvious. Sometimes what you’re doing seems innocent, normal, even good — yet it is not what God called you to build. It may be something engineered from your own desires, your own pride, or even envy.

One way to recognise this is when you pour time, effort, and money into something, but it never bears fruit. Everything looks right, but the outcome is so little to the effort you put, even worse it amounts to nothing.. That’s often a sign: you’re building something God never asked you to build.

As children of God, when we give our lives to Christ, we come under His authority. This means we must stay sensitive to His voice. If not, we will reap frustration, sorrow, bitterness, and comparison. You begin thinking that others are more blessed than you, that life is unfair, that God is unfair — when in reality, you’re building outside of His Plan For You.

Why My Podcast Project Didnt Work...

Early last year, I wanted to start a podcast. My intention seemed innocent:
“I’ll make money on YouTube.”

The desire wasn’t wrong — but my motivation was envy. I wanted to make money like others. Friends encouraged me, “You can do this, you can do that,” and I listened.

I used my platform to create content that stirred anger, blame, negativity — especially about Africa. I thought I was raising awareness. I thought I was enlightening people. But the Holy Spirit kept whispering to me:

“I don’t want you to do this. Stop.”

I ignored Him.

I invested over $10,000 into production and hours of my time that were never billed and paid for. I prayed over the podcast because i thought it had to do with my faith. Yet it remained stagnant. I saw others grow, and I wondered why God wasn’t blessing mine. The truth?
He wasn’t in it.

He had blessed me before — businesses, opportunities, ideas — they grew quickly when He was in them. But this? It drained me. Emotionally. Spiritually. Financially.

Eventually, after many signs (including the podcast studio closing), I stopped. I tried finding other studios, but they were too expensive. Funding didn’t come. Doors stayed closed. Looking back now, it wasn’t the devil blocking me — it was God, because He loved me.

God's Redirection

When I finally decided to surrender to God's voice early this year, I shifted my focus to the business idea God had encouraged me to register back in 2024. In prayer, I told God:

“Show me who my audience is — who my potential clients are.”

Within that same month, I attended a networking event in Ottawa. I was exhausted, financially drained, and honestly discouraged. I didn’t even want to go, but something inside urged me to show up.

The evening began with endless conversations with people who clearly weren’t potential clients. It felt like a waste of time… until the very end.

A woman approached me.

We started talking about her communications challenges, and naturally, I began sharing strategies — not even realising I was pitching myself. At the end of our conversation, she told me she wanted to hire me as a consultant.

I was shocked.

That moment was God gently revealing exactly who my audience would be:
women entrepreneurs.

And today, that clientele is the one God has used to bring real income into my life and help my business flourish.

My communications consultancy business thrives because God is in it. Every event, product, or service I put out — and pray for — yields direct, visible results. In less than a year, I’ve won pitch competitions, gained clients, launched successful campaigns, and produced work that brought me peace and joy. It was the complete opposite of my podcast project.

That’s the difference when God is in something: it will bear fruit. What is fruit? tangible results that exceed or match your effort and expectations
Yes, there may be a waiting period, but during that wait, you won’t feel drained, anxious, or financially unstable. Instead, you will feel guided, strengthened, and reassured.

When you walk in true intimacy with God, He will even explain why you’re waiting and why a blessing might be delayed. But one thing is certain: what God builds will always be fruitful — not just financially, but also through the positive impact and feedback you receive from other

What You Must Learn From This

Now, It wasn’t easy for me to walk away from the podcast. I had already grown the channel to 990 subscribers, accumulated over 30,000 views, and some topics performed really well while others didn’t. It was great for my ego and pride.  But I was fooling myself because

Humans praise what looks successful on the outside. God looks at purpose, alignment, and destiny.

What made me hold on the most was the fact that I had equally invested at least a year of my time and resources, and because I saw others succeeding, I kept asking myself:

“Why not me?”
“Maybe I just need to push harder.”
“Maybe I’m being negative or quitting too soon.”

But here is what the Holy Spirit revealed to me:

Sometimes the very thing God does NOT want you to do is the thing others will keep encouraging you to continue.
Not because they mean harm — they simply can’t see what God sees. They don’t know the spiritual weight of what you’re trying to build, and they don’t know the danger of staying in a place God's spirit has already left.

On the flip side:

The things God actually calls you to do are often the things people will discourage you from doing, because they look unusual, unrealistic, too courageous, too outrageous for people to comprehend.

So the moral of the story is, before you build anything — job, business, relationship, friendship, even helping others — you must ask God in prayer :

“Are you in this with me?” This is also because ;

  • You don’t know people’s true intentions towards-He does

  • You don’t see the future — He does.

  • You don’t see the spiritual consequences — He does.

  • You don’t know what is aligned with your destiny — He does.

God speaks constantly — through thoughts, ideas, feelings, dreams, visions.
The issue is that we often ignore Him.

Build with God. He wants you to succeed more than you want to succeed. He wants you elevated, not drained. He wants His timing and His way — because they lead to peace, sustainability, and joy.

Trust me, you don't want to waste money and time on something that seems great, only for you to realise it was a waste in the eyes of God.

Take time to ask God:

“Lord, are You with me in this?”

And listen — because He will answer.
