Walking on Water: What God Taught Me About Doing the Impossible

Published on December 6, 2025 at 11:24 PM

One day I was sitting on my couch watching a sermon. I don’t even remember the message itself, but I remember the season I was in—desperately hoping for God to do a miracle. I needed Him to bring people to an event I was organizing, and honestly, I didn’t have faith for it. I didn’t yet understand what real faith was.

The beautiful thing about walking with God is that He makes you unlearn many things you assumed, and helps you learn how He truly works. I had a belief that I had faith, but it was actually fake faith—I didn’t genuinely believe He would answer me. Yet God was still faithful.

As I sat there on that couch, I heard Him whisper:

“Walk on water.”

I was shocked. “God… walk on water? I’m in my apartment in Canada. There is no water here—only concrete and grass. What do You mean walk on water?”

What He wanted to teach me was the principle of walking on water—how to rise above human possibilities and step into divine impossibilities.

So I went back to read the story again ( Mathew 14:22-33) and prayed, “Holy Spirit, give me wisdom. Show me what You mean.” And He began to teach me.

1. Walking on Water Begins With Courage

In the story, Peter and the disciples were going to the other side, facing strong winds that were shaking the boat. It was dark, and they were afraid. When they saw Jesus walking on water, they thought He was a ghost.

But Peter did something different. He tapped into revelation. He said:

“Lord, if it is You, command me to come to You.”

Peter was not afraid to try something he had never done. He stepped away from the crowd, away from fear, and asked Jesus to let him do the impossible.

This is the first lesson God taught me:

Have the courage to step out of your comfort zone and believe in the impossible — even when everyone else doubts.

This feeling or desire is activated when we hear sermons, pray bold prayers, and suddenly feel faith rise inside us. We start asking God for big things because the Holy Spirit gives us that boldness.

2. Stepping Out of the Boat: The Start of the Journey

When Peter stepped out of the boat, he immediately began walking on water. That represents the moment we finish praying and enter the waiting season.

You pray.
God confirms.
You feel peace.
You receive the word.

Now comes the journey.

Between where you are and where the manifestation is, you will go through winds—symbolising:

  • obstacles

  • delays

  • voices of doubt

  • the fear of time passing

  • pressure

  • bills

  • disappointments

  • people’s opinions

  • your own ego

These are the winds that rocked Peter. He took his eyes off Jesus, got distracted, and began sinking.

That is exactly what happens to us.

When days pass with no answer…
When months pass…
When we hear “no”…
When the deadline expires…
When everything looks opposite of what God promised…

We begin sinking emotionally and spiritually.

3. When You Begin to Drown, Cry Out—God Will Lift You Up

When Peter began to sink, he cried:

“Lord, save me!”

And immediately Jesus pulled him up. Then he said:

“You of little faith, why did you doubt?”

That’s exactly what happens to us. We start with boldness, then get overwhelmed, and then cry out again.

Jesus didn’t leave Peter. He lifted him, and they walked back together — still on water.

Meaning:
Even when you fall, God will restore you, steady you, and help you walk again.

But Peter was originally supposed to walk all the way to Jesus. He stopped because he got distracted. But you must understand, Peter was capable of reaching Jesus without drowning. This means you are capable of waiting and persevering until the miracle happens. You just need to stay focused and strengthen your mind and spirit.

4. You Are Spiritually Backed—Miracles Happen Through You, Not At You

God was trying to teach me:

“You can do the impossible because I am backing you.”

When God gives you a word, confirmation, peace, or instruction, the Holy Spirit empowers you to walk toward it—even when you don’t see results yet. His grace is sufficient for you to do all things, step by step.

But miracles don’t just fall from the sky.
They require your cooperation.

Peter heard Jesus say “come”—that was the Word.
But he still had to walk.
He still had to face the wind.
He still had to keep moving.

That’s why I say:

Miracles happen through you, not at you.

You have to walk.
You have to believe.
You have to keep your eyes on Jesus.
You have to take daily steps of faith.
You have to guard your mind during the waiting.

5. Walking on Water Is Often a Lonely Path

Peter walked alone.
No disciple joined him.
No one held his hand.
No one encouraged him.

The path to manifestation may be just like that—you and God only.

But isolation is not abandonment.
It is preparation.

God wants you strong in Him.

Walking on Water Means Believing the Impossible Is Possible

Isn’t it fascinating how, as humans, we are so quick to reject possibilities in the name of logic?

When you walk with God, you actually have to be a little “delusional” — not in a foolish way, but in a faith-filled way. You must believe in things that are not logical, things that do not make sense to the natural mind, because miracles do not come through logic.

Miracles happen through a posture, an attitude, and a mindset.

God has been teaching me personally to change my mindset — to stop being so rigid, to stop clinging to “how things should happen,” and to become flexible. Because walking with God often requires accepting that things will happen in ways that do not make human sense. That is the essence of the supernatural.

Don’t let negativity and the obsession with “logic” blind you from what God can do.
Don’t let your human reasoning limit a God who created the universe.

Yes — God gives us a sound mind. But when you are expecting blessings, breakthroughs, or supernatural intervention, you must expand your belief. You have to stretch your faith and open your heart to outcomes that go beyond your understanding.

Because with God, the impossible becomes possible — but only to the mind that is willing to believe.

Whatever situation you're facing, whatever miracle you're waiting for, whatever dream God placed in your heart, whatever prayer you prayed:

Walk on water.
