Can You Wait On God?

Have you ever wanted to “help” God help you? Let me explain.

Imagine you just finished praying for something, and two minutes later you’re already thinking about how you will do it yourself because God’s way seems to take too long. Or better yet, you don’t even know if His answer will come because you’ve been disappointed before — so you assume this time won’t be any different.

I remember trying to “help” God when I first moved to Canada. Within the first 6 months, I was job hunting. I applied everywhere, but I couldn’t get past the interviews. A friend suggested a program, and I enrolled, and they promised to help us get a job( this was clearly God's answer to my prayer ). But to me, it felt too slow because the program would only start four months later, and I wanted a job immediately.

So, in the meantime, I took matters into my own hands without consulting God. Another friend connected me to a job and even helped me create a fake CV. She convinced me it was the only way. And surprisingly, it worked — I got the interview, and they called to hire me.

But I declined. Because deep down, I knew I was lying. Even during the interview, I felt the Holy Spirit convicting me that I was building my career on a lie. It was good pay, but I walked away and waited for the four months.

Eventually, I did get a job. But during that waiting season, I’ll admit — I didn’t have faith in God. I thought He was against me. I regretted moving to Canada. I even planned to leave at the end of the year.

Sometimes we think we’re “helping” God because He seems “too slow,” but really, we’re just being prideful.
We think we know better than God.  That’s deception.
You didn’t create yourself — so how would you know your tomorrow better than the One who made you?

One of the fruits of the Spirit is patience.
I looked up the plain definition:Patience is the ability to endure difficult or unpleasant situations without becoming annoyed or angry.

When was the last time you waited on God’s answer without getting annoyed or angry?

I definitely struggled with that. But in humility, I submitted my impulsive nature to God, and He tested me. Through Christ, I am far more patient now than I was before.

Waiting on God is tough when you’re focused on the promise instead of the Promise Giver — and what He’s trying to teach you about yourself. If you still whine and complain while waiting on God, it means you still need spiritual maturity.

When you grow spiritually, you understand that God can say:
No.
Wait.
I have a better plan.

And it takes relationship to discern which one applies to your situation. It also takes emotional maturity to understand that God is Team You, even more than you are.
