One of the most beautiful things I enjoy in my relationship with God, through the power of the Holy Spirit, is how He teaches me how powerful I am. When you seek intimacy with God, He actually starts to reveal to you who you really are, and then you realize how much time you wasted giving your power to people and chasing useless things, when the true power was in Christ.
But in order for me to arrive at this level of intimacy with God, I had to have faith. One of the tactics the enemy uses to keep people in darkness (that is, away from God or from believing and accepting Christ) is disbelief. Nowhere in the Bible does Christ or God praise someone for not believing in Him — in fact, it’s the opposite. Jesus was not able to perform miracles in His own hometown because they didn’t believe in Him. They were led by their pride and their own understanding of who God was.
Disbelief generates fear, and fear holds you back. Fear keeps you in darkness and blinds you to the bright future God has for you. Faith is the currency God recognizes; it’s the language He speaks. And the beautiful thing is this: faithfulness is one of God’s core characteristics — He can never fail you. Because God is faithful, anything you trust Him with will always be secure in His hands.
Unfortunately, God cannot give you faith; you have to develop it yourself. You have to be willing to strengthen your faith.
The good news is that God never leaves us standing alone. When we ask for help with things that build our character, He always shows up. Here is how I have been able to build my faith:
1. Praise and Worship
I set aside at least two hours every day for prayer (most of that time is dedicated to praise and worship, watching teachings, reading the Word, and praying). Time flies so fast I don’t even realize it’s been that long. If you don’t have the strength for long prayers, ask God for the grace to commune with Him.
2. Reading the Word of God
I read what the Bible says about faith and how faith manifested in different stories. Knowing the definition of faith — and repeating it in my mind — strengthened me mentally and spiritually.
3. Praying Once and Declaring
When I’m waiting on God for something, instead of praying about it over and over again, I pray about it once. Then I start speaking what I’m expecting into existence (if it aligns with God’s will). I imagine myself already receiving what I’ve asked for.
4. Remaining Joyful
I remain joyful. I don’t meditate on defeat. I let go, focus on something else, and wait for God to bring the blessing to me.
There isn’t a strict formula to build faith. I highly encourage you to pray to God and ask Him to help you build your faith in Him. He will answer you through a test, and when you recognize the test, read the Word of God to strengthen yourself. When you pass the test, you will see that your belief in God has grown, and you will become a different person.
Faith is the step toward the miracle you expect — don’t lose faith in God. He is faithful, and because faithfulness is His nature, He will never fail you.
